S. Bento station rehabilitated with MERIDIAN SOTELHA roof tiles

The iconic S. Bento train station, located in the city of Porto, is benefiting from the renovation of its roof.

For this rehabilitation, the Sotelha Meridian Tile was selected. A tile model produced by Cerâmica Sotelha considered part of the identity of the historic center of the city of Porto, being present in a large part of the rehabilitated buildings and those undergoing rehabilitation.

S. Bento Station is considered one of the most beautiful stations in the world. Its construction began in the 19th century. This station is recognized for the beauty of its atrium covered with twenty thousand historical tiles, designed by the painter Jorge Colaço, which illustrate the evolution of transport and scenes from Portuguese history and life.

Given its historical and heritage importance, this is one of Sotelha’s reference works.

At the station, around 10,000 Meridian tiles were applied to a covered area of approximately 800 m2.

Sotelha reinforces its pride in being able to contribute to the recovery of Portuguese architectural heritage.
