CERÂMICA SOTELHA'S HISTORY
CERAMICA SOTELHA: SINCE 1970
Cerâmica Sotelha, S. A. was established in 1970 having started laboring in 1972. Currently, a reference in structural ceramics produces roof tiles and fittings bringing the clay’s cheerful color to national and international roofs.
Sotelha was the first automated factory for the manufacture of roof tiles, to be installed in the Iberian Peninsula. Cerâmica Sotelha has always revealed to be a dynamic company and early on a bet on products' diversification and the technological update.
In 1980 by the diversification spirit, a new plant was set to produce rustic wall and floor tiles in red clay (RUSTICER). Four years later a tunnel furnace was built in replacement of two intermittent furnaces. The roof tiles were certified for the first time in 1989, and these certifications were yearly renewed and kept until the present time. In May 1998, the company’s Quality Management System achieved certification, two years after it started being developed.
In 1999 a dry hammer mill was installed in order to improve the technical characteristics of wall and floor tiles. In 2001 a third manufacturing plant was built in order to increase the production capacity and diversify the range of offered roofing alternatives.
